Fall Festival 2015

Superman was there.  M&Ms were there.  So was a Mermaid, a cat and a host of other characters.  Oh My!  FBC is at it again by hosting its own Fall Festival.  An added bonus, there was some serious Bingo going on for the “Youngsters at heart”.  See the action below.  Note:  there are 2 slideshows.

Trunk or Treat/Halloween Festival Candy

FBC will be joining all the downtown churches for a block party and Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 25. We also will have our Halloween Festival on Wednesday, October 28.

We need donations of candy for both events. Please place the candy in the container located in the Fellowship Hall.

September is Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

Childhood obesity has more than tripled in children and adolescents over the past 30 years. Over 30% of children are overweight which poses  greater risks for diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and some cancers. The J. Smith Young YMCA wants families to know the dangers of childhood obesity and ways to reverse course through increased physical activity and improved eating habits. Here are five important actions:
• Eat Healthy: Make water the drink of choice (supplemented by age appropriate
portions of 100 percent fruit juices and low-fat milk) and make it easy for everyone to fill half their plates with fruits and vegetables by offering two or three colorful options. Feel free to mix and match fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables to provide variety.
• Play Every Day/Go Outside: Kids should have at least an hour a day of unstructured play outside (when possible) and break a sweat at least three times a week by getting 20 minutes or more of vigorous physical activity.
• Get Together: Eat as a family as frequently as possible with kids involved in meal preparation and clean up. In addition, adults should take a break from electronics and spend one-on-one time each day with their kids, enjoying one another’s company.
• Reduce Screen Time: Time spent in front of a television, computer, tablet, cell phone or video games should be limited to two hours per day.
• Sleep Well: Kids and adults need to keep a regular sleep schedule ten to twelve hours per night for kids and seven to eight hours for adults.

Please contact Jen Fuller-Allen at jen@lexingtonymca.com or 249-2177 for more information about programs that can benefit your family.

Pennies from Heaven

Pennies From Heaven
Update, Dec 1:  The twelfth annual fall campaign for “Pennies from Heaven is underway through ended December 1st.  Donations are for the direct financial support of The Crisis Ministry of Davidson County.  The collection jug will be located in the church office during Sunday mornings, the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday Nights and in the church office all other times.

FBC does it again!  See below for the full jug of pennies and various other coins and bills.  What a great service and mission to the Crisis Ministries of Davidson County!  (Scroll down for the pictures.  If you need a closer look, click on the picture for a larger picture to view.)

The taller jug was too heavy for one person to lift.  It could only be transported by handtruck.  The smaller jug is from the Martha Best Children’s Center “Pennies from Heaven” campaign.

Alternative Gift Fair Wednesday, November 19
5:00 p.m. – Fellowship Hall
Gift Fair/Bake Sale

Christmas is a special season. This year instead of giving more “things” give a gift that will make a difference to service organizations. You will have the opportunity to honor a family member or friend with a gift to a local or international service group. You will receive a gift card for your honoree from the organization that you select. We have set a minimum donation of $10 to get a gift card.

This year’s participating organizations include:

  • CBF Global Missions
  • FBC Assistance Fund
  • Martha Best Children’s Center
  • Crisis Ministry of Davidson
  • Carolina Cancer Services
  • Pastor’s Pantry

You may also enjoy homemade cookies, cakes or candy. If you enjoy baking please consider donating items for the fair. All profits will go to benefit local and international missions. Contact Kay Albright (248-4130) or Sharon Palmer (798-1369) if you wish to contribute baked goods.
