Advent: Simply Beautiful!

“The season of Advent means there is something on the horizon the likes of which we have never seen before…. What is possible is to not see it, to miss it, to turn just as it brushes past you.  So stay.  Sit. Linger. Tarry. Ponder. Wait. Behold. Wonder. There will be time enough for running. For rushing. Wait. Something is on the horizon.”  –Jan L. Richardson

Birthday Party for Jesus

Children celebrated Jesus’ birthday in the Fellowship Hall during the 2nd Sunday of Advent service in the Children’s Fellowhip Hall.

Christmas Shoeboxes

For many years, members of First Baptist Church have traveled to the Samaritan’s Purse distribution center to help organize the huge volume of filled shoe boxes that will be shipped all over the world to provide Christmas gifts for needy children.

This year, 2016, we had over 140 Shoeboxes donated by FBC.

Here’s the FBC group that traveled to Charlotte for this special occasion.  What a great group!  Thanks FBC!

Advent Reflections, 2nd Sunday

The Chrismon Tree originated in the year 1957 at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Danville, VA.    The word “Chrismon” comes from Christ and Monogram. Therefore, a Chrismon is a symbol; a representation of Christ.

Al Martin, our Minister of Music, introduced First Baptist to the Chrismon Tree in 1977. Al was assisted by Mrs. Miheepa Jones of First United Methodist Church. A small group visited the Ascension Lutheran Church in Danville.

This year many volunteers led by Brenda Barton and Melinda Hartley have worked tirelessly to restore and renew our Chrismon ornaments. Each Chrismon proclaims the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. Surrounded by the symbols of Advent and Christmas, let us worship God!
