GLAMA’s Palm Sunday March on Lexington

Tell the City of Lexington, Christ is coming!  This is the day the Lord has made!  We will rejoice and be glad in it.  Hosanna!  Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord.  Hosanna in the highest!

Today’s Palm Sunday Celebration was planned by the Greater Lexington Area Ministerial Association.  We are grateful to the City of Lexington, Davidson County Government, and the Lexington Police Department for their assistance.  Thank you to the Alive Praise Band for sharing their gifts with us.  Thank you to all the churches who enrich this community with love and grace and who made this celebration possible.

Palm Sunday

Hosanna, Christ enters our lives!  Blessings are here, yet haunting truths lurk in the shadows.  Death comes even to the most innocent and loving of humanity.  Celebration and sorrow intermingle in our world.

Palm Sunday 2016

Palm Sunday is the final Sunday of Lent, the beginning of Holy Week, and commemorates the triumphant arrival of Christ in Jerusalem, days before he was crucified.

Palm Sunday is known as such because the faithful will often receive palm fronds which they use to participate in the reenactment of Christ’s arrival in Jerusalem. In the Gospels, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding a young donkey, and to the lavish praise of the townspeople who threw clothes, or possibly palms or small branches, in front of him as a sign of homage. This was a customary practice for people of great respect.

Palm branches are widely recognized symbol of peace and victory, hence their preferred use on Palm Sunday.
