“The Mulch Pile”
Letting go of the negative things in life and allowing ourselves to grow something beautiful in their place. Based on Paul’s words in Colossians 3: 7-10 and 12-14.
Originally from Charlotte, Susan Sparks has had an unusual life path. She attended UNC at Chapel Hill and WFU School of Law. After ten years as a lawyer and moonlighting as a standup comedian, Susan left her practice and spent two years on a solo trip around the world, including working with Mother Teresa’s mission in Calcutta, climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and driving the Alaska Highway. She entered Union Theological Seminary in New York City where she earned a Master of Divinity.
She is currently the Senior Pastor of the historic Madison Avenue Baptist Church in New York City (and the first woman in its 165 year history). Susan is a cancer survivor and speaks to groups across the country on humor and healing. Susan has been featured in O Magazine, the New York Times, on CBS, CNN and ABC.
