The Chrismon Tree originated in the year 1957 at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Danville, VA. The word “Chrismon” comes from Christ and Monogram. Therefore, a Chrismon is a symbol; a representation of Christ.
Al Martin, our Minister of Music, introduced First Baptist to the Chrismon Tree in 1977. Al was assisted by Mrs. Miheepa Jones of First United Methodist Church. A small group visited the Ascension Lutheran Church in Danville.
This year many volunteers led by Brenda Barton and Melinda Hartley have worked tirelessly to restore and renew our Chrismon ornaments. Each Chrismon proclaims the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. Surrounded by the symbols of Advent and Christmas, let us worship God!
