As we approach Memorial Day weekend we look forward to our time of worship on Sunday.  Our choir always provides a moving anthem for this special day and this year they are singing “Song for the Unsung Hero,” a Joseph Martin anthem.  The words are very powerful:  “Sing a song for unsung heroes, sing from sea to shining sea.  As the faithful sang before you, sing the song of liberty.”

We will have a time in our service to remember those “unsung heroes” who found “in their love of freedom power stronger than their fears.”  We will also honor all who have served our nation in the military.

As a special feature on this Memorial Day Sunday, I will share a personal tribute to “America’s Pastor,” Billy Graham.  Dr. Graham died in February at the age of 99.  I will share some reflections and then, in honor of this great and humble servant, we will sing his signature invitation hymn, “Just As I Am.”

Ed Taylor and Jim Barton, along with Peggy Barnhardt, will provide our pre-service music.

My sermon is titled:  Are You Able? And is based on Mark 10: 35-45.

I hope you can be with us Sunday for this special time of worship.  Come early for Sunday School.  If you do not have a regular Sunday School class, let me know I will be glad to introduce you to one of our excellent classes.  Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m.

A week from Sunday is Baccalaureate Sunday.  We will go to Riverdale on the 10th, celebrate Father’s Day by taking a closer look at the Prodigal Son on June 17, and June 24 will be a special celebration of both communion and baptism!   Don’t miss a Sunday at First Baptist, but if you have to be away, log on to service via our website or WLXN.com or listen on the radio at 99.9 FM or 1440 AM.

I hope to see you Sunday!   Have a very good and safe Memorial Day weekend!
