Director of Youth and Children’s Ministries (Part-Time)

Objective: Responsible for guiding children and youth in their understanding of themselves and their faith Relationships:
The Director of Youth and Children will report to the Senior Minister and work under his/her supervision and in coordination with the Music Minister, Financial Secretary, Business Administrator, MBCC Director and lay leaders of the Church.
Conditions:
1. The position is defined as part-time with an expectation of an average of 20 hours per week with flexibility for certain events and times of year such as mission trips, retreats and Vacation Bible School. It is expected that the Director will coordinate with the rest of the church staff and with designated church members to ensure that the duties described herein are covered while the Director is off duty or away.
2. No specific office hours are required, though office space will be provided for use as the Director needs or sees fit
3. The Director will not be expected or required to attend Wednesday services/programming in which he/she does not have a leadership role
4. The Director will be expected to attend meetings of the Children’s Committee but will not be required to attend meetings of other committees or meetings of the Diaconate, though he/she may attend if invited.

Description of Responsibilities:
● Recruit and train volunteer lay leaders from the church membership to assist in the activities for the children and youth
● In coordination with volunteer lay leaders from the church membership, organize and carry out weekly meetings, Bible studies and activities for children and youth
● Periodically, organize and carry out special events for children and/or youth, such as the Fall Festival
● Periodically, organize and carry out retreats and mission trips for the youth
● Collaborate with the Martha Best Children’s Center (MBCC) Director and the J Smith Young YMCA Director to establish a regular, weekly presence at both locations in order to minister to and establish relationships with children and youth who may not attend FBC Lexington or any other church
● Every summer, plan and implement Vacation Bible School in coordination with church staff and member volunteers
● Lead or coordinate the Children’s Time at Sunday morning worship service at the church
● Collaborate with youth and children’s ministries of other churches to provide services to children and youth of the community
● Consult with the lay director of youth and children’s Sunday School and/or youth and children’s Sunday School teachers about curriculum for youth and children’s Sunday School
● Communicate with parents and be available to consult with them about the tools they need in helping their youth and children develop their faith.

Compensation:
The Director will be compensated at the rate of $35,000 per annum, or approximately $673 per week, without benefits (as church policy dictates for all part-time positions). This salary is negotiable commensurate with qualifications and experience.
