Many of you have already responded to the special offering for disaster relief in Western North Carolina. Thank you. We will be receiving a special offering at the conclusion of tomorrow’s service. Please make checks payable to First Baptist Church and earmark them for Disaster Relief. We will send all funds to Baptists on Mission Disaster Relief. I have added the latest update from Baptists on Mission at the end of this email.
You can make online gifts by following this link. It will say General Fund, but you can send us an email to let us know that this special gift is for the disaster response.
Children and families of our Martha Best Children’s Center have been collecting items for the victims that will be distributed through the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department. If you wish to give tangible items, this will be a good way to do so. This link will give you the details:
Tomorrow is World Communion Sunday and we will join Christians around the globe as we celebrate Communion. Two of our Deacons, Joe Leonard and William Hopkins, will play a special role in serving Communion. This is because they will also be ordained as part of our worship service. Joe is our Lay Reader and will be reading from John’s account of the Upper Room: John 13: 1-20.
The order of service can be found at www.fbclex.org
Beryl Phillips has completed another great newsletter. October’s Steeple Talk can be accessed here: October 2024
When you come to church in the morning, stop in the Fellowship Hall at “First Stop” for some great refreshments and fellowship.
Dustin Young, Joyce and I, made a trip to the Great Pumpkin Patch this week and we have pumpkins for all of our children. The pumpkins are located in the fellowship hall. Dustin and McKeena are coordinating our Extended Session on Sundays. I appreciate Dustin going to Virginia to get the pumpkins.
We have been asked to provide 450 cans of cranberry sauce for Pastor’s Pantry’s holiday meals. We will have a container in the vestibule and also the elevator lobby to receive your donations. Let’s get off to a great start. If we try to average 125 cans each week, we can exceed our goal!
We need two volunteers for Meals on Wheels. Here is a message from our Meals on Wheels Coordinator, Jim Honeycutt:
Volunteers from First Baptist have been delivering meals to senior adults in Lexington since Meals on Wheels was born here over 50 years ago. It takes at least 20 First Baptist folks to do our route. Julie Householder and Rena Morrison have been faithful volunteers for several years, but they will be retiring soon. We need two people to give one hour on alternating Fridays, 10:30 to 11:30, to complete our team. Jim Honeycutt is the contact person, and he will be down front after the service to meet with anyone who is interested in helping. Or you can give him a call. Thank you for helping with this important and rewarding ministry.
All Saints Sunday is November 3. Please let us know if you would like to have a loved one included.
I look forward to seeing you in the morning. If you can’t join us in person, here is the link to our YouTube Broadcast: First Baptist Church, Lexington, NC USA YouTube Channel
Grace and Peace,

Here is the latest update from Baptists on Mission:
10/3/2024: Baptists on Mission is responding in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the mountains of western North Carolina. We’ve set up large feeding units in Boone, Marion and in Arden. In addition, we’re setting up recovery sites in Boone, Spruce Pine, Hendersonville, Marion and a number of other areas.
Volunteers are helping in feeding; shower and laundry; chainsaw teams; tarping roofs; mudding and tearing out homes; and more. You don’t need to be trained to serve with some of these opportunities. Please know that we will have many opportunities to serve for many weeks, months and years to come. Your team may very well be more needed a week or two or a month or two from now than they are right now.
You can sign up to volunteer as well as give financially to support the relief efforts. All financial gifts go directly to assist those impacted by the storm.
Thank you for helping us offer hope to families affected by this massive storm. Please continue to pray for everyone impacted by Hurricane Helene, including first responders and our volunteers.
