Finding the vaccine in Piedmont Triad North Carolina

/

Updated: February 13th, 2021:

Finding a COVID Vaccine is not easy.  North Carolina only has 120,000 doses to be allocated across the entire state as of yesterday (January 2021).  Many providers, including the Davidson County Health Department, are receiving no vaccines this week.  But if you are scheduled to receive your second vaccine shot, do not worry—those doses have been set aside and will be available for you.

The key to finding a vaccine right now is to try multiple places.  The vaccine is currently open to all healthcare workers and anyone 65 and older. (With the exception of Alamance County where it is still 75+)  We have church members who have been able to get the vaccine in Davidson County, Lexington, Charlotte, Salisbury, Winston-Salem, Mocksville, Greensboro and Chapel Hill.

WXII has a great link on their website: wxii12.com  It gives a county by county breakdown on accessing the vaccine. We will notify you the next time you will be able to seek an appointment through the Davidson County Health Department.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has launched a new online tool to help North Carolinians know when they will be eligible to get their vaccine.

The Find My Vaccine Group walks users through a series of questions to determine which vaccine group they are in. People can then sign up to be notified when their group can get vaccinated.

Davie County has a first come, first serve clinic beginning this Friday at 10 a.m. at Davie County Community Park in Mocksville.  No appointment is necessary but they caution that their allotment this week is only 400 doses.  Here is the announcement concerning this Friday’s clinic:

The first dose clinic scheduled for Friday (1/29) morning will be first come, first served.  Vaccine administration will begin at 10:00 AM and will go until our vaccine supply is depleted.  The event will not last long as there are only 400 doses of vaccine available.  As you have likely seen or heard in the news, NCDHHS limited vaccine supplies to many local health departments this week.

Established patients can make an appointment through Novant’s MyChart or Wake Forest Baptist’s MyWakeHealth.  The next available appointments for both systems are in March.

Several of our church members went to Chapel Hill and got a vaccine through the UNC-Chapel Hill Healthcare System.  Here is the link:  www.yourshot.org

Check the websites of local county health departments. The Alamance County Health Department is taking appointments today (January 27) beginning at 8:30 a.m. only by phone (336-290-0650). Note that Alamance County is restricting access only to people 75 and older at this time.

Several of our members were able to secure vaccines through Forsyth County:  https://www.co.forsyth.nc.us/publichealth/

and Guilford County:  https://www.guilfordcountync.gov/our-county/human-services/health-department

Rowan County was offering a first come, first serve clinic, but they have now transitioned to online appointments.  You can make an appointment in Rowan County beginning Monday, February 1, at 10 a.m.  Go through their Health Department Website:  https://www.rowancountync.gov/256/Health-Department

Atrium Health is having a mass vaccination clinic this weekend at Bank of America Stadium.  The 19,000 appointments were filled in less than two days.  This is the second weekend they have held a mass clinic (They vaccinated 16,000 at Charlotte Motor Speedway last weekend). They will be offering another mass vaccination clinic soon.  If you are willing to drive to Charlotte, go to this website to learn when to sign up.  AtriumHealth.org/COVID19Vaccine

While this is challenging, there are still many opportunities to get a vaccine.  Yesterday, the Governor’s office announced that providers will now know the baseline amount of vaccines they will receive over a three week period.  This will help streamline the availability.  So, keep trying!  Don’t give up.  Try and try again!  Check out all of these resources and more.

It has been so good to hear from many of our church family and friends who have been able to get the vaccine.  With the more contagious UK variant now identified in our state (Mecklenburg County) it is imperative to follow all the safety protocols.  When you have to be around other people, wearing two masks is a wise move.  Until the vaccine begins to turn the tide, we are going to have to be on guard!
