Special Entertainment

Honoring Laverne Owen

For 30 years Laverne has been our Church Cook providing delicious meals during Family Night and on other special occasions. Laverne has decided that he can no longer continue in this capacity. We want to thank him for his service to First Baptist. On the first Family Night back you will have the opportunity
to thank Laverne. We will also have a place if you wish to give a love gift of cash or checks made payable to Laverne Owen for his outstanding service and dedication for these past thirty years.

Welcome Our New Church Chef – Melissa J. Darr

We are so excited to introduce to the congregation our new Chef. Melissa has worked in numerous food settings. Some of you will recognize her from her days as the Sous Chef at the City Club from 1998-2009. Most recently she was the Division Chef for Lowes Foods until 2013. Melissa also does “Little Chefs Cooking Classes” during the summer. She is currently the Child Nutrition Manager for Davidson County Schools. As you can easily see she is more than qualified and we are fortunate that Melissa will be a part of the First Baptist Church family. We will officially welcome her and have her first meal at FBC on Wednesday, September 10.

August 31st, 2014

2 big events for FBC:

Sunday, August 31 – 10:30 a.m.
During the Sunday School Hour, all children and youth will be promoted to their new classes for the new church year. Any adults wishing to make a change are urged to do so at this time. A bell will ring when it is time to promote.

Summer Sermon and Singing Celebration
FBC will mark the conclusion of our “Summer Sermon and Singing Celebration.” We will culminate this special summer celebration with and old fashion “Hymn Sing.” Come prepared to request your favorite hymn to be sung during the service.

School Supplies

During the month of August 2014, the WMU will collect much needed school supplies for area foster children.

A collection box is located in the Children’s dining area of the Children’s Center.

Transportation Fund

The church has voted to purchase a “used” van costing $24,000 to $30,000.  We currently have $9,310.00 in the Transportation Fund.  We also anticipate trading or selling the current van.  Many memorials and honorariums coming in now are designated for this fund.

Please consider making a contribution to the Transportation Fund to defer the cost of the van.

Spring Family Night 2014 conclusion

The Spring of 2014 Family Night concluded with a bang!  FBC’s focus of Caring for Creation hosted a document shredding event in an effort to help with secure disposal as well as recycling of used paper.  The children wrapped up their sessions with a recap of events and studies.  And to top it off, the children did an outstanding job with their songs.

Great job FBC!
